Two men convicted real estate fraud were found in Burnsville after going AWOL from a federal prison in Duluth.

Michael Krzyzaniak, 64, and Gerald Greenfield, 67, were arrested at the Burnsville Hampton Inn, just off of Interstate 35W. The two went missing from FPC Duluth on March 30. They were caught early Friday, according to a report in the Star Tribune.

The Pioneer Press reports that prison spokesman David Baker said he couldn't recall the last time an inmate escaped from the facility, which has about 840 prisoners at present. However, reports from the Duluth News Tribune's archives detail at least five escapes since 1996.

Prior to his hasty departure, Krzyzaniak (also known as Michael Joseph Crosby) was in the midst of a 151 month sentence for wire fraud and income tax evasion, with a projected release date in 2022. In February 2012, he pleaded guilty to swindling $20 million to $50 million from investors he had lured into various real estate development schemes.

In January 2012, Greenfield was sentenced to 50 months of incarceration on one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, a charge stemming from a $2.5-million mortgage fraud scheme that involved the sale of condominiums at the Sexton Lofts, a complex in downtown Minneapolis.

As of Friday morning, the two remained in custody at the Ramsey County Jail.
