Federal Prisoner Apprehended at Burnsville Hotel Indicted for Escape

Michael Joseph Krzyzaniak, 64, has been indicted on one count of escape from custody.

A man previously convicted on federal fraud charges now faces a new indictment for fleeing a prison camp in Duluth.

Michael Joseph Krzyzaniak, a 64-year-old Minneapolis man, allegedly skipped out on the federal prison in Duluth on March 30, 2013, where he was serving a 151-month sentence for a 2012 conviction in the District of Minnesota for wire fraud and tax evasion. Krzyzaniak and accomplice Gerald Greenfield, 67, evaded authorities until April 5, 2013, when the two were apprehended at a Hampton Inn in Burnsville following six days on the run.

On April 22, a grand jury indicted Krzyzaniak on one count of escape from custody. If convicted, Krzyzaniak could be sentenced to up to five years in federal prison, in addition to the sentences he is already serving.
