Maksim Krimouski, a 25-year-old Savage man, and Apple Valley resident Gennadi Adamovich Krimouski, 47, have been charged with aiding and abetting theft, a felony that carries a penalty of zero to five years in jail, accompanied by a $3,000 to $10,000 fine. They also face charges for tampering with a motor vehicle and possession of theft tools, a felony punishable by zero to three years in jail and possibly a fine of $1,500 to $5,000.

On Feb. 16, deputies from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office encountered the men after they received reports of a suspicious vehicle lurking around a dormant construction site in the Empire Township. Initially, he told deputies that he was having car trouble and directed them to the elder Krimouski, who was found inside a semi-truck nearby.

Deputies noticed two sets of tracks in the freshly fallen snow, along with a trail of red diesel fuel that led to an "elaborate pump, hose and fuel delivery system." Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the four construction vehicles on the site were missing 410 gallons of diesel — about $1,640 worth of fuel. The padlocks on the fuel tanks were either cut or missing.
