Car Fire Reported on CR 11

Authorities closed the road off on Thursday afternoon after one vehicle burst into flame.

Sun Thisweek reports that Burnsville police shut down County Road 11, just south of I-35E, after a car fire erupted at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. By the time the incident conlcuded, the car was burned to its shell.

Car fires are an extremely common, but dangerous, occurrence. According to the latest statistics from the National Fire Protection Association one vehicle fire was reported every 146 seconds in 2010. All told, there were 215,500 vehicle fires that year, resulting in 310 civilian fire deaths, 1,590 civilian fire injuries, and $1.4 billion in property damage.
