Burnsville Woman Charged with Strangling, Biting Woman

Police say Tifffany Rae Kretzmann repeatedly slammed the victim's head against the ground, bit her on the arm and strangled her.

A Burnsville woman has been charged with strangling a woman and slamming her head repeatedly against the floor.

Tiffany Rae Kretzmann, 29, is charged with domestic assault by strangulation, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine. She is also charged with misdemeanor domestic assault, which has a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, a woman contacted Burnsville police on the evening of July 2 and reported that she had been assaulted by Kretzmann at their home in the 1300 block of 143rd Street.

The victim told police that she had arrived home about 4 p.m., and she and Kretzmann began arguing. During the argument, Kretzmann shoved the victim into the wall and onto the ground, then got on top of her, grabbed her by the hair and began slamming her head into the floor, according to the complaint.

The victim said Kretzmann slapped her on her right ear, and at one point grabbed her by the throat and strangled her.

The victim was able to stand up, but Kretzmann pushed her down again, got on top of her and bit her in the upper right arm, she told police. During the assault, Kretzmann said she wanted to kill the victim, the complaint charges.

The victim said she was able to get away from Kretzmann, gather her belongings and leave. She told police that Kretzmann has assaulted her many times, but she had never reported the assaults to authorities.

Police noted that the victim had abrasions and a bruise on her right arm and swelling around her right eye, her nose and on both sides of her neck.

Kretzmann was arrested after the alleged assault, but is free on her promise to make all future court appearances and to stay away from the victim. An omnibus hearing in her case is scheduled Nov. 27 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
