Burnsville Woman Arrested Again for Violating No-Contact Order

Kristina Shea Peterson is accused of illegally contacting her ex-boyfriend for the second time in a month.

A Burnsville woman who was arrested less than a month ago for domestic abuse and violating a no-contact order has been arrested again for violating a protection order and second-degree burglary.

Kristina Shea Peterson, 34, was found Friday evening at the home of her ex-boyfriend, Clayton Lee VanFleet, 45, after Burnsville police drove by his home in the 14700 block of West Burnsville Parkway and saw her walk past a window inside the house, according to a complaint filed in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.

A no-contact order was issued last November, forbidding Peterson from having any contact with VanFleet. when authorities said she argued with VanFleet, swore at him and threw a drinking glass at his head from 3 feet away.

VanFleet was treated at Fairview Ridges Hospital for cuts to his head after the April incident.

On Friday, after spotting Peterson in the man’s home, officers knocked at the door, and he let them in. Officers “immediately observed [Peterson] sitting in the living room, drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette,” the complaint says.

After Peterson was arrested, she told officers she knew that she wasn’t supposed to have any contact with VanFleet and that she had asked a friend to drive her there, knowing she was in violation of the order. She also told police that VanFleet had warned her that she could be arrested if she came to his home.

VanFleet told police that he wasn’t home when Peterson and her friend arrived. VanFleet said she let herself and her friend in, using a key still in her possession, and when he got home he found them in his living room.

According to the complaint, Peterson admitted that she had been in court the previous day on gross-misdemeanor charges of violating the protection order, and “was well aware of the conditions.”

The latest charges against Peterson are felonies. The maximum penalty for violating a protection order is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. She has also been charged with burglary for entering VanFleet's home illegally. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Peterson, who has a lengthy criminal record with a number of convictions for domestic assault, harassment and domestic abuse, remains in the Dakota County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
