Burnsville Police Department Now On Twitter

The BPD is hopping on the social media bandwagon with a Twitter account: Is a Facebook page next?

The Burnsville Police Department is not shy when it comes to technology. The agency was one of the first in the nation to embrace AXON body cameras, for instance. But so far, the BPD has steered clear of the social media revolution.

Until now, that is. Wednesday, the department announced that it would join a growing number of law enforcement agencies who use Twitter. The BPD is in good company. The Minnesota State Patrol and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are both active in the Twittersphere, releasing amber alerts and information about breaking news on the platform. However, Twitter is not widely used among law enforcement agencies in Dakota County, with the notable exception of the Apple Valley PD. Is Facebook the next frontier for the BPD? Only time will tell.
