Burnsville Police Bust Man for Possession of 'Nose Bullet'

An Eden Prairie man has been charged with felony drug possession after authorities say they found cocaine in his pocket when he was arrested this week for shoplifting from a Burnsville store.

Jordan Michael Rutland, 22, faces a felony drug possession charge, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He’s also charged with misdemeanor theft, which has a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville police were called to a store on Tuesday after a loss prevention employee reported that he had detained Rutland for shoplifting a $9.75 bottle of over-the-counter medicine.

Police handcuffed Rutland and performed a pat-down search. The officer asked Rutland if he had any weapons or drugs, and Rutland said he had a knife in his right pocket and a “nose bullet” containing cocaine in another pocket, the complaint says.

The officer found the “nose bullet,” a container full of cocaine, in Rutland’s right front pocket.

Rutland was booked and then released from the Dakota County Jail on his promise to make all future court appearances. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled for Oct. 24 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
