Case Closed Against Burnsville Man Who Stole Clothes, Car of Romantic Rival

Juan Carlos Dorsonville, 44, has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for threatening to kill his ex after sneaking into her home and stealing her boyfriend's clothes and car.

A Burnsville man will serve a short stint in jail for a campaign of intimidation directed at his ex and her new boyfriend.

Juan Carlos Dorsonville, 44, has pleaded guilty to making terroristic threats, a felony. In exchange, the state has dismissed a second charge—felony car theft. He is currently in custody at the Dakota County Jail, serving a 60 day sentence for the crime, which occurred last spring.

The incident in question took place on the afternoon of May 14, 2012, when officers from the Burnsvillle Police Department were dispatched to a residence on report of a possible burglary and verbal threats. The victim said she'd gotten a call from Dorsonville, saying that he was inside her home, looking at pictures of her new boyfriend.

He threatened to kill her and her boyfriend. The woman told police that Dorsonville had made similar threats n the past and that she fully believed he would kill her if given the opportunity.

When she arrived home, she found the garage door open and her boyfriend's car was gone. She went inside to her bedroom and noticed items missing from the nightstand—keys to the missing car and and a photo of her boyfriend. Her boyfriend's clothing was also missing from the closet. Most alarmingly, two steak knives had disappeared as well.

While officers were speaking with the woman, the suspect called her cell. An officer answered the victim's phone, and spoke to Dorsonville. He admitted to being in the house and taking the picture. Eventually he also confessed to taking the car.

He pleaded not guilty in October 2012, but changed his plea on March 27, 2013. That day Judge Leslie May Metzen sentenced him to 60 days of local confinement, with credit for 16 already served, and four years of supervised probation. Dorsonville will also be obliged to pay a $250 fine.
