UPDATE: Burnsville Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter

Kyle Alan Dague to be sentenced Nov. 30.

 

Kyle Alan Dague of Burnsville pleaded guilty today to second-degree manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of Justin James Schauer on Dec. 31, 2011.

Dague, 23, was indicted by a Dakota County Grand Jury on July 16 with one count each of manslaughter in the second degree and reckless discharge of a firearm.

According to a news release from the Dakota County Attorney's Office, Judge Martha Simonett ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set the sentencing date for Nov. 30.

Originally identified as being from Savage, Dague was initially charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of Schauer, according to Burnsville Police Sgt. Rory Bochniak.

“Our officers got a call that the subject might have shot himself,” Bochniak said at the time of Dague's arrest in January.

Dague made the call to Burnsville police, Bochniak said. When officers arrived, they found Schauer dead and took Dague into custody. Police recovered a handgun at the scene.
