A Burnsville man has been charged with felony drug possession and sales after police say they found almost 3 pounds of marijuana, two handguns and almost $9,000 in cash in his bedroom.
Vilayphone Vonemany, 25, is charged with fifth-degree drug sales and fifth-degree drug possession, each of which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Each charge has a minimum penalty of three years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, officers from the Burnsville police SWAT team, the Southwest Hennepin Drug Task Force and the Dakota County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a home in the 13200 block of Court Place on May 16.
Police found seven bags of marijuana totaling 1,337 grams, or 2.9 pounds, in various locations in the home, including three bags in the closet of a bedroom in which Vonemany admitted he slept.
Officers also found $8,960 in cash in a box under Vonemany’s bed, and two .40-caliber handguns in the closet of his room, according to the complaint.
Vonemany, who was in the home at the time the search warrant was executed – along with several other people – admitted that he had more than 2 pounds of marijuana and almost $9,000 in cash in his bedroom, the complaint says.
He also admitted that there were two guns in his bedroom closet, but he told police that the guns weren’t his, according to the complaint.
Vonemany is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charges July 9 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
