According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a Burnsville home Aug. 12 after a woman complained that Johnson had been drinking and had argued with her about laundry.

The woman said Johnson gets “mean” when he drinks, and that he had called her names and was being “generally rude.” When she told him to leave, he refused, she told police.

The victim said Johnson handed her the phone and told her to call police and “see what happens between the time you call and they show up,” the complaint says.

The woman said she felt threatened by Johnson and feared that he would hit her because he has done so in the past. She said that when Johnson left the room, she called 911, and just before police arrived, Johnson told her that if he “did jail time for this,” he would come after her.

The victim was crying and “visibly shaken” while she spoke to officers, the complaint says.

Police spoke to a witness, who said she heard Johnson call the victim names, but didn’t hear him make any threats. She said she saw Johnson whispering to the victim and getting “up in her face.”

When police spoke to Johnson, he smelled strongly of alcohol, had a flushed face and bloodshot eyes, according to the complaint. Johnson told police that he and the victim had argued over money and laundry.

Johnson’s criminal history includes previous convictions for fourth-degree assault in 2002 and violation of a protection order earlier this year.
