Burnsville Man Charged with Car Theft, Making Terroristic Threats

A Burnsville man has been charged with stealing a car and threatening to kill a woman if she took up with another man.

Juan Carlos Dorsonville, 43, is charged with two felonies in the May 14 incident: making terroristic threats and car theft, each of which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Dorsonville remains in the Dakota County Jail on a $20,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled June 12 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.  

According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville police were called to a home just after 2:30 p.m. May 14 on a report of a possible burglary.

The victim told police that she had gotten a call from Dorsonville in which he told her he was inside her home and was looking at pictures of her new boyfriend. He told the woman he was going to kill her, reiterating threats she said he had made in the past to kill her if she was ever with another man, according to the complaint.

When the woman arrived home, she found her boyfriend’s car missing from her garage, though it had been there when she left the house at 8 a.m. She also told police that a photograph of her and her boyfriend and her boyfriend’s car keys were missing from the nightstand.

The woman discovered that her boyfriend’s clothing had been taken from the closet and that two steak knives had disappeared from the kitchen, the complaint says.

While the officer was speaking to the victim, she got a phone call from Dorsonville. The officer answered the phone, and Dorsonville became angry and accused the victim of cheating on him, according to the complaint.

Dorsonville came to the Burnsville police station that evening and admitted taking the car from the woman’s home, along with clothes and other belongings, the complaint says. He took an officer to the stolen car and said he had thrown the car keys out the window, according to the complaint.
