According to a criminal complaint, filed in Rice County District Court, Faribault Police were called to Trucker Inns at about 9:45 p.m. on Thanksgiving for a reported robbery at gunpoint, but found no one there. The man who reported being robbed told police he met three men at Truckers Inn and that they eventually robbed him of his wallet and the $2,000 inside. After the men got into a car and drove off, the man who reported being robbed told police they eventually dumped the car and that the driver allegedly shot at him.

A Rice County deputy responding to the call saw a man, later identified as Groehler, walking near the scene. The deputy said Groehler was carrying pepper spray, a SOG knife and $1,440. The deputy said Groehler told him he found the money when he was walking. When police searched the vehicle, they found a .44 Remington magazine and rounds, a 20-gauge Winchester shotgun and several used shells and a Remington 870 Express Magnum shotgun.

Groehler was arrested Friday morning on a warrant for theft and probation violation.
