Burnsville Man Arrested on Charges of Threats, Child Endangerment

Andrew Talks allegedly threatened a woman with knives in front of the couple's two children, aged 2 and 4.

A Burnsville man faces a felony charge after he allegedly menaced a woman with knives during a domestic dispute.

Andrew Lee Talks, 26, faces one count of terroristic threats, a felony, and once count of endangerment of a child, a gross misdemeanor. Terroristic threats carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and fines of up to $10,000. Child endangerment is punishable by up to one year in jail and fines ranging from $900 to $3,000.

According to the criminal complaint, the Burnsville Police Department was dispatched to an address in the 3000 block of Hamilton Street on Jan. 25 after a prolonged argument between Talks and a female party seemed to be taking a violent turn. The woman told police that the fight began after Talks got upset about texts she received from another man. The woman said after a day of arguing she retreated to the bedroom, where she told Talks she was going to leave and take their two children.

Talks refused to let her go. When she threatened to call police, he allegedly said "If you call the police someone is going to die tonight."

The woman locked the door, but Talks forced his way in. The woman said that Talks stood over her, holding two butcher's knives in his hands while the couple's two small children looked on.

Talks is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on Feb. 21. He is currently in the Dakota County Jail, held on a $50,000 bond.
