Burnsville Man Arrested on 2010 False Imprisonment Charges

Cory Marcell Fisher was arrested Tuesday in Hennepin County.

A Burnsville man was arrested Tuesday on 2010 charges of false imprisonment and domestic assault.

An arrest warrant for Cory Marcell Fisher, 22, was issued July 13 after Fisher failed to show up for a scheduled psychological, chemical dependency and domestic abuse evaluation, according to court documents.

He was arrested just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Hennepin County. He is charged with false imprisonment, a felony, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine, and a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault, which has a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville police were called to a home in the 14000 block of Burnsville Parkway West on April 18, 2010, to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance.

When police arrived, they could hear a man yelling at a woman, calling her names, the complaint says. The man, identified as Fisher, told the woman that she wasn’t going anywhere, even though the woman pleaded with Fisher to let her leave, according to the complaint.

Police recorded a portion of the conversation while standing outside the window. Officers said they could hear what sounded like Fisher pushing the victim against the wall.

Another officer went to a bedroom window, where he could see Fisher and hear him repeatedly accusing the victim of cheating on him, the complaint says.

The officer said he heard Fisher tell the victim, “I want to punch your teeth.” He also heard Fisher tell her, “Call the cops and tell them [you’re] kidnapped, [expletive.] You ain’t going nowhere.”

At least three times, the officer said, he saw Fisher stand up from the edge of the bed and square up against the victim, blocking her path and causing her to retreat toward the center of the bedroom.

Officers listening to the conversation reported that the victim was pleading with Fisher to let her go, and that she was crying and sounded frightened. “Fisher was very assertive and dominant over the victim,” the complaint says.

When officers knocked on the front door, all the sound inside “abruptly stopped, and there was no movement,” according to the complaint.

About 15 seconds later, officers looking in the bedroom window saw Fisher crack open the bedroom door and look through it toward the front door. The complaint says Fisher eventually came to the front door and went outside.

Fisher was arrested and told police that he and the victim were in a relationship.

Fisher remains in the Dakota County Jail in Hastings. He is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charges on Wednesday.

He is facing separate Hennepin County charges of domestic assault, interfering with a 911 call and criminal damage to property involving a different victim on May 31, according to court documents.
