Burnsville Man Arrested for Alleged Cell Phone Robbery

Police say Jamar Dennard Miller robbed a man of his cell phone at a Burnsville apartment complex.

A Burnsville man has been charged with robbing a man of his cell phone at a Burnsville apartment complex, threatening to “pop” him if he didn’t comply with his orders.

Jamar Dennard Miller, 20, is charged with simple robbery, a felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville police were called to an apartment complex just before midnight June 13 on a report of a robbery.

Police met with the victims, who said they were robbed by a “younger, skinny black male,” who took a cell phone and went through the pockets of one of the victims.

The victims told officers that they thought the man had a gun, and they were afraid of him because he said, “Drop everything or I’ll pop you.” The suspect also held his hand in his waistband in a way that made the victims believe he had a gun, they told police.

Police searched the area and found the suspect near the apartment complex. Both victims identified Miller as the man who robbed them.

Miller told police that he made arrangements to meet the victim, who was going to sell marijuana to him, according to the complaint. He said he intended to steal the marijuana from the victim, and he admitted grabbing the drugs out of the man’s hand and taking his cell phone, the complaint says.

Miller told police that he said to the victim, “Give me your stuff or I’ll knock you out,” according to the complaint. He denied implying that he had a gun.

Miller is free on a $30,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Oct. 2 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
