An early evening blaze swept through a single-family residence in Apple Valley on Friday, drawing firefighters from several nearby cities.

A police spokesman directing traffic at the scene said there were no injuries in the three-alarm fire, which took place at 5961 139th St. W., near the intersection of 140th Street West and Johnny Cake Ridge Road.

Neighbors said the fire began at around 6:30 p.m. A strong odor of smoke permeated the neighborhood, and a column of smoke was visible from at least a mile south. In addition to Apple Valley, firefighters from Eagan, Burnsville and Rosemount responded to the blaze.
