Brainerd Man Charged with Stealing Vacuums from Burnsville Store

Police say Mark William Feierabend visited the store twice last December and took $600 Dyson vacuum cleaners both times.

A Brainerd man has been charged with repeatedly stealing vacuum cleaners from a Burnsville store and telling police that he did it because he’s addicted to crack cocaine.

Mark William Feierabend, 44, is charged with three felony counts of theft, each of which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville police were called to the store last Dec. 24 after loss prevention employees watched Feierabend enter the vacuum department, select a Dyson vacuum valued at $600, then leave the store without paying for it.

Loss prevention employees weren’t able to catch up to Feierabend after he left the store.

On Dec. 29, Feierabend returned to the store, went to the vacuum department, chose another $600 Dyson vacuum and left the store without paying for it, the complaint charges.

This time, store employees stopped Feierabend outside the store and asked him to return the vacuum, which he did, according to the complaint.

Burnsville police were called, and Feierabend admitted taking the vacuum, telling officers that he did it because of his addiction to crack.

Feierabend’s criminal record includes more than a dozen convictions for theft in various Minnesota jurisdictions.

Feierabend is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charges July 30 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
