BFD Responds to Electrical Fire at Goodrich

A blaze broke out at the manufacturer's building on Judicial Road on Friday.

Goodrich evacuated hundreds of employees Friday morning after an electrical fire broke out at the manufacturer's facility.

Company spokesman Sol Mirelez said the fire began in the electrical motor of one of the manufacturer's wind tunnels, which are used to test the companies aeronautic products. The blaze did not spread to any other part of the building.

"It was confined to a really, really small area," Mirelez said.

The fire was a brief one, said Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann. By the time fire crew arrived around 8:51 a.m. the blaze had been extinguished. Jungmann said there was no damage to the building at 14300 Judicial Road.

Mirelez and Jungmann siad there were no injuries. Employees were kept out of the building for about six hours, however, as the BFD tested the air inside for hazardous fumes. By 2:30 p.m. work resumed as normal, Jungmann said.

It is still unclear how the blaze began, Jungmann said. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
