The Burnsville Police Department (BPD) was dispatched to a house in the 1400 block of East McAndrews Road after a homeowner interrupted a burglary and called police, said BPD Emergency Management Coordinator Sgt. Don Stenger.

The suspect reportedly pointed a gun at the homeowner before fleeing the scene in a black crossover utility vehicle (CUV).

(Apr. 1, 2:51 p.m.) The Burnsville Police Department (BPD) has in custody a suspect they say was armed, chased by a civilian and subsequently crashed a car into a home at 225 Burncrest Court.

According to the BPD's Emergency Management Coordinator Sergeant Don Stenger, at approximately 11:50 a.m. today the suspect fled on foot after crashing a car – a black crossover utility vehicle (CUV) – into a home at the corner of Burncrest Court and 134th Street.

Roads surrounding the scene were closed and the two nearby schools were locked down, said Sgt. Stenger.

Speculation at the scene said a civilian witnessed the suspect breaking into a home in another part of Burnsville and gave chase. The suspect was said to have pointed a gun at the witness before fleeing and subsequently crashing his vehicle into the Burncrest home.

BPD was unable to confirm these details at the time of writing.

Owing to assistance from police departments in Apple Valley, Savage, Bloomington and the Minnesota State Patrol, BPD apprehended the suspect without incident after a short chase.

Stenger was confident that the suspect acted alone and that no one else would be apprehended.

BPD continue to investigate the situation and have promised a second briefing later this afternoon.
