2 Arrested After Scuffle with Burnsville Macy's Security Guard

Dae Vernon Nisell of Minneapolis and a juvenile were arrested after the security guard stopped them for shoplifting from Macy's, police said.

Two people were arrested Monday evening after police say they scuffled with a security guard at a Burnsville Center department store.

Dae Vernon Nisell, 18, of Minneapolis remained in the Dakota County Jail Tuesday, facing a felony charge of carrying a pistol without a permit and misdemeanor charges of obstructing the legal process, fifth-degree assault and theft.

According to Burnsville Police Sgt. Rory Bochniak, Nisell and two others were attempting to shoplift jeans and jackets from Macy’s just after 8 p.m. Monday when a store security guard apprehended them.

A scuffle ensued, and by the time police arrived, the guard and his partner were holding Nisell and the juvenile on the ground. The third suspect fled, but Burnsville police took Nisell and the juvenile into custody without further incident.

“They did all the work,” Bochniak said Tuesday. “We just cleaned it all up and put them in jail.”

The security guard refused medical treatment at the time, but later went in to be “checked out,” Bochniak said. He was given a clean bill of health.

No court appearances have yet been scheduled for Nisell.
