Letter to the Editor:I was pleased to discover the investment legislators made in public education during the past session (Burnsville education roundtable brings together state and school officials - http://burnsville.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/burnsville-education-roundtable-brings-together-state-and-school-officials). And I’m very pleased that Rep. Will Morgan, who represents Burnsville and a portion of Lakeville in District 56B, was one of those who led the effort. The investment in all-day kindergarten, which will enable Minnesota school districts to provide optional all-day kindergarten to every student, will certainly be a long-term benefit. At present, only one-half of all the state’s kindergarten students have access to all-day kindergarten. While it will help those parents who could otherwise not afford to send their child to kindergarten, it helps us all by lifting all children to a level of preparedness that was not previously possible. And there’s a benefit to all of us – those with children and those without – in putting all children on the path to educational success. This investment can make a lifelong difference – educational success followed by career success –and in that regard this investment does make sense for the future of Minnesota.
