Recent Deaths, Week of May 4, 2013

At least six people from Burnsville and Shakopee died this week, including a husband and wife of 60 years who died within two days of each other.

A Burnsville couple, Gerald and Joan Lauby, passed away of natural causes this week, on April 28 and April 30 respectively. The two enjoyed 60 years of marriage. They will be memorialized together on Tuesday at a Mass of Christian Burial, which will take place at Burnsville's Church of the Risen Savior at 11 a.m. A visitation period will be held one hour prior to the service.

William (Bill) Lawrence Sweeney, of Burnsville, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the age of 81.

Sweeney was originally from the West Side of St. Paul. He graduated from Cretin High School and The College of St. Thomas. He was veteran of the Korean War and a longtime a junior high guidance counselor and coach of youth hockey and baseball. He was also a dog lover and ardent supporter of the Humane Society.

"There was never a kinder man," his family writes.

Constance E. 'Connie' Vierling

Constance E. 'Connie' Vierling, of Shakopee, died on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the age of 86.

Vierling was born on March 4, 1927, in Victoria, MN, to Frank and Mary (Kelzer) Wellens. She married Lawrence Vierling on Aug. 18, 1948. Vierling enjoyed a 22-year career as a nurses aid at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee.
