Local Musicians Selected to Perform at French Summer Jazz Festival

Hannah Hanssen of Burnsville and Tucker Peterson of Savage have been selected to perform at the prestigious Jazz a Juan Festival in Antibes France this summer.

Burnsville and Savage musicians, Hannah Hanssen and Tucker Peterson of the music duo Better Together, have been selected among hundreds of international applicants to perform at the Jazz à Juan OFF Festival in Antibes, France on July 16, 2013.  Now in its 53rd year, Jazz à Juan runs between July 12-21 and will feature international headliners Wynton Marsalis, Sting and Diana Krall (www.jazzajuan.com).  The fringe OFF festival presents over twenty jazz acts performing around the public squares of Antibes and Juan-les-Pins.

Hanssen and Peterson, a Twin Cities couple, brought their unique musical backgrounds and common interest in jazz together to form Better Together in 2010. Hanssen is a classically trained vocalist with an interest in musical theater and jazz studying music at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.  Peterson, a trained jazz guitarist, comes from a background of more contemporary music styles. He is pursuing a degree in guitar performance at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota.  The diverse backgrounds of both young musicians work together to create a jazz experience that rejuvenates the reminiscent quality of old standards while giving new songs a classic twist.

Last year, Better Together advanced to the finals of the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest.  Better Together performs frequently at local coffee shops, wine bars and special events.
