Thunderstorm, Flood Warning in Effect

A storm with potential for hail and high winds is on the way.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for east central Minnesota, including Dakota County.

At 10:24 am the agency spotted a storm capable of producing quarter-sized hail and winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. The storm system was near Eden Prairie, moving northeast at a rapid clip of 55 miles per hour.

If you are outdoors, seek shelter immediately. Residents are also advised to stay away from windows.

Minor flooding is forecasted for the area. It is likely that  the flood waters will impact Black Dog Road in Burnsville and parts of Savage.

If you encounter standing water, do not drive through it. Flood waters are often deeper and swifter than they appear. The National Weather Service put it rather bluntly: "Turn around. Don't drown."
