THIS WEEK: Empty Bowls and 'Willy Wonka'

See what's happening in the Burnsville area this week.

Tuesday

• Burnsville City Council Meeting: On the agenda is a public hearing for official map of future Cliff Road West, which will be located east of Dupont Avenue and south of Cliff Road. The council will also consider approval of contract with company to come up with a preliminary design and study for the Black Dog Trail/Greenway Project between 35W and Cedar Avenue. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

• Two Hour Late Start for BHS: The school will be on a two-hour late start schedule due to sophomore and junior testing for the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment test. For more information about how this will affect student schedules, click here, MCA Schedule April 17-18, 2012.

Wednesday

• Members of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Board of Education will gather feedback on a proposed budget for the 2012-13 school year during three upcoming community meetings. Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m., Senior Campus, Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Parkway

Thursday

• Empty Bowls for Full Bellies: Help the school district fight chronic hunger among its students. For a freewill donation, guests will receive a meal of soup and bread and select a handmade bowl to take home. “Empty Bowls” will raise funds for a Burnsville High School volunteer project called BrainPower in a Backpack that provides weekend food to local elementary school children who might otherwise go hungry. 

The event takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, at the Campus Cup café in the senior campus, upper level, Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Parkway.  

• Board of Education Meeting: Full agenda packet available, here. The board is set to discuss a $1.2 million upgrade to the M.W. Savage Elementary's heating plant and HVAC system and a two-year contract for student transportation.

Friday

• Letter Press with the Minnesota Center for Book Arts: The public is invited to make a one-of-a-kind printing plate made with layers of cut paper using our traveling sign press. Supplies provided. Registration required. The event starts at 1:30 p.m. at .

Willy Wonka: Burnsville High School Theatre Guild presents its last show of the season — a "sticky-sweet" musical performance of Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka." The show runs from April 19 to April 28 at the school's Mraz Performing Arts Center. "Willy Wonka" will be up April 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 at 7:30 p.m. and April 22 at 3 p.m. in the Mraz Center of Burnsville High School. Admission is $8 Students, $9 Seniors, $10 Adults. Tickets can be reserved online at www.MrazCenterTickets.com or purchased at the door the evening of the performance.

• "True Love:" Chameleon Theatre Circle will debut a gritty, contemporary adaptation of two classic plays — Euripides' Hippolytus and Racine's Phaedra— which have been "radically reconstructed," grafted together and placed in Burnsville's Trailer Park world. Friday's show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for students and seniors aged 62 and older. 

Saturday

•  "True Love:" Chameleon Theatre Circle will debut a gritty, contemporary adaptation of two classic plays — Euripides' Hippolytus and Racine's Phaedra— which have been "radically reconstructed," grafted together and placed in Burnsville's Trailer Park world. Saturday's show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for students and seniors aged 62 and older. 

Sobriety High School's April Extravaganza: The public is invited to partake of food, games, a bake sale, a silent auction, a talent show and inspirational stories of recovery during the school's annual fundraiser. All proceeds support the education and continued sobriety of the students at Alliance Academy (Sobriety High). The event runs from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
