The National Weather Service has announced a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Dakota County and other parts of east and central Minnesota.
At 3:38 pm a severe storm was spotted on the radar near New Prague, moving east at 35 miles per hour. This storm is capable of producing half-dollar sized hail and damaging winds of 60 miles an hour or more. Radar readings also indicate rotation inside the storm system, which could result in the formation of tornados.
The agency advises anyone in the path of this storm to take cover immediately and stay away from the windows. Prepare to move to a basement or windowless room, as tornados can form with little warning.
