Severe Weather Alert

National Weather Service lifts severe storm warning. Tornado watch remains in effect.

Update: Storm warning lifted. Tornado warning still in effect Dakota, Scott, Hennepin, Ramsey, Carver, Washington, Anoka and Rice Counties. The warning will end at midnight.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a tornado watch and a storm warning, urging residents to take shelter immediately and prepare for an onslaught of large hail as a severe storm makes its way through the area.

"Seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure and stay away from the windows," the agency advised in the warning, which was issued at 7:23 p.m.

The warning applies the towns of Burnsville, Savage, Shakopee, Lakeville, Apple Valley, Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Richfield, Prior Lake, Jordan, Marystown, and Credit River.

At 8:19 p.m. the agency extended the severe storm warning until 9 p.m. for southwest Dakota County. The storm could potentially produce half-dollar sized hail and high winds. It is currently over Farmington, moving about 15 miles an hour to the northeast.
