Heat Advisory: Burnsville to Boil in 100 to 105-degree Temperatures

The heat advisory includes much of central and southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Monday's heat advisory for Burnsville is the latest in a series of summer heat warnings for central and southern Minnesota, and western Wisconsin.

The advisory is scheduled to begin around 11 a.m. and last until 9 p.m., according to a statement from the National Weather Service. The rest of the warning is below:

ANOTHER ROUND OF NEAR RECORD TEMPERATURES WILL AFFECT THE REGION ON MONDAY AS SOUTHWEST WINDS BRING A PLUME OF HOT AIR ACROSS UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY. HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL NOT BE OVERLY OPPRESSIVE, BUT THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE WILL BE NEAR 100 DEGREES AT MOST LOCATIONS BY MID AFTERNOON.

HEAT INDICES WILL RANGE FROM 100 TO 105.

TEMPERATURE: ACTUAL TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM THE UPPER 90S TO LOWER 100S. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURES WILL BE ALONG THE MINNESOTA RIVER VALLEY. HEAT INDICES WILL RANGE FROM 100 TO 105 ACROSS THE REGION.

IMPACTS: THIS POTENTIALLY RECORD SETTING HEAT WILL LEAD TO A HEIGHTENED RISK OF HEAT RELATED STRESS AND ILLNESS. IF YOU PLAN TO BE OUTSIDE, BE SURE TO REMAIN HYDRATED AND TAKE NECESSARY BREAKS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE, RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING.

KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK, THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (OSHA) RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS.

ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY, CALL 911.
