Firefighters from Shakopee launched at least one rescue boat from Shakopee at about 3:40 p.m. and were headed toward an old railroad bridge known as the swing bridge in Savage, located off Vernon Avenue. A command central was set up in Savage near Vernon Avenue and Highway 13 and authorities said they were searching for a 33-year-old white man in what could have been a suicide attempt.

Savage police got involved after Plymouth police called and asked for assistance with a missing person case, Muelken said. Savage police found the man's car parked on Vernon Avenue near a barricade on the way to the river.
