17, serving as a member of the bomb disposal team for four years. He continued to be a reservist after his discharge in 1950. He met his wife, Betty Josephine Bianco, on a blind date. On Feb. 19, 1955 they were married in Long Beach. The young couple moved to Burnsville, where they raised four children—Susan, Kris, John and Judy. As a father, Hagen was noted for his expertly-made buttermilk pancakes, which became a special weekend tradition.
