Where to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Burnsville

Civil servants, tacos, fake margaritas and a mariachi band are expected to show up for Arbors at Ridges' Cinco de Mayo party.

Cue up the mariachi band—Cinco de Mayo is fast approaching.

The celebration of Mexican heritage on May 5 is sometimes mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day. However, Cinco de Mayo actually commemorates the Battle of Puebla, a turning point in Mexican history and freedom.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Arbors at Ridges assisted living campus in Burnsville will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo-themed lunch to help raise money for the Burnsville Fire Department (BFD).

Tacos, chips, salsa, churros and non-alcoholic margaritas will be served. Members of the fire department will be in attendance and entertainment will include a mariachi band and a raffle.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Arbors at Ridges, 13810 Community Drive.

The cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children.

Last year's event raised $1,710 for the department, which allowed them to purchase mobile video recording systems for firefighters and paramedics. The devices are used to record emergency scenes and assist the department with documentation, investigations and training.
