U-Haul Stakes a Claim in Burnsville

The moving and storage giant recently bought TC Self Storage, a large facility on Portland Avenue.

In an effort to expand its network of self-storage units, U-Haul has acquired TC Self-Storage, a 47,000 square foot facility on 12200 Portland Avenue. The new location adds another 390 temperature-controlled space storage rooms to the company's Burnsville holdings. U-Haul already has two footholds in the city, with one major storage and moving center on Highway 13 and a small truck rental outlet operating out of  Shell Station on County Road 5.

According to a press release from the company, the new acquisition will cut down on air pollution. Matthew Marquart, president, U-Haul Company of Southern Minnesota, said that the location will allow consumers a shorter distance to travel when moving and storing their goods.

"(The new location) not only will make their move easier but also will have the positive effect of reducing the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere," Marquart said.

U-Haul has made a special effort to cut down on its environmental impact. The company has launched an initiative called the U-Haul Sustainability Program, which includes the use of fuel-efficient moving vans, dispersing locations to maximize neighborhood proximity, reusing moving boxes, and providing customers with packing peanuts that are 100 percent biodegradable.
