The much-maligned minivan may be on the verge of shaking the soccer mom stigma—at least that's what some sales statistics suggest.
According to American International Automobile Dealers and a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, in the U.S. sales have increased 17.5 percent to 316,500 through July—about twice the growth rate of SUVs and crossover vehicles over the same period. However, even with the slight resurgence total sales have declined considerably. This year's minivan sales are only half of what they were in 2005.
Nevertheless, Duane Brause, New Car Sales Manager at in Burnsville told KARE 11 that he had seen an increasing interest in mommy mobiles, perhaps because of car manufacturers' efforts to give the vans a sleeker appearance, improvements in gas mileage and their undeniable practicality.
