Burnsville Tech Business Snaps Up Local Competitor

RJS Software Systems, which develops digital document management systems, announced this week that is would absorb NowData Corp. another Burnsville firm.

This week, RJS Software Systems announced the imminent acquisition of a fellow Burnsville business, NowData Corp., for an undisclosed amount.

"NowData has an excellent reputation for providing world-class customer service," RJS general manager Michael Bergstrom says in a press release. "They are a perfect complement to our existing development team."

RJS is a Burnsville-based business founded in 1990 by President and Chief Technology Officer Richard Schoen. Since its inception, the company has developed over 60 products that help organizations with document and data capture, management, distribution and security solutions.

NowData is a 13-year-old company that creates databases and management software. Recently, NowData has offered an app that allows business owners to access and search large data sets from their mobile devices. The company is small but its client list is impressive, including the Mayo Clinic Foundation, the State of Minnesota and Great Clips, among others.

With NowData in pocket, RJS will be able to expand the company's offerings and enhance its software development operations. 

At present, RJS has about 50 employees. NowData’s four staff members will soon move into its headquarters, RJS spokesperson Joel Sawyer told the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal. NowData will retain its own name for the time being.

According to tech blog IT Jungle, this is RJS' first acquisition since 2006, when the company purchased Ultimate Data Systems, an Edina-based firm and IBM business partner.
