Burnsville Friendly to Food Trucks as Vendors Exit Minneapolis 'Hunger Games'

Food trucks are attempting to expand to the suburbs with varying success, according to the Minneapolis - St. Paul Business Journal.

The food truck industry is looking to expand towards the suburbs, but the need to obtain city licenses has not always made the expansion easy, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reports.

Martin Richie, food truck owner of Motley Crews Heavy Metal Grill Food That Rocks! has worked with multiple suburbs, including Burnsville to get ordinances passed regarding food trucks.

Richie told the journal that "he wants to get out of the 'Hunger Games' of Minneapolis and sell in the south suburbs where he and his family live."

While he continues to face challenges in Bloomington, he has found success in Burnsville and Lakeville.

The journal reports that in Burnsville food trucks are considered mobile vendors. The ordinance, passed in April, allows food trucks "to park on public streets, right-of-ways and private property."
