Since its founding in 1988, Apex has been included on two annual lists put out by ENR Magazine—the Top 200 Environmental Firms and Top 500 Design Firms.

It was also recognized as one of the 500 fastest growing firms by Inc. Magazine. Now that the construction industry seems to be recovering from four devastating years of recession, the company is poised for expansion. In 2011, Apex acquired TITAN Engineering, Inc. (Dallas, TX) and Ash Creek Associates, Inc. (Portland, OR).

Minnesota is a relatively new frontier for the company, however. Officials at the mammoth Maryland-based company say they chose to locate their newest location in Burnsville due to expanded stormwater and water services business with new and existing clients.

The Burnsville office is the company's only Minnesota outpost, though the firm has 37 offices scattered across the U.S. from Texas to New York to Washington state.

In an article dated Aug. 15, Kevin Satz, an Apex spokesman, told the Star Tribune that the company chose Burnsville because of its proximity to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and relative affordability. Satz said Burnsville rent is a good deal lower than in Hennepin County.
