SUNDAY: The Fight for 'Freedom to Marry' Comes to Burnsville

Sunday marks the kickoff celebration for Dakota County Votes No, an organization formed with the hope of defeating a proposed Constitutional amendment that would ban marriage for gays and lesbians in Minnesota.

A group of Dakota County residents are joining the battle against the constitutional amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage. This Sunday Dakota County Votes No will meet publicly for the first time for a kickoff rally at Burnsville's

Sunday's event brings together people from all walks of life —local teachers, parents, faith leaders and others—who have to agreed to speak out about why they will vote no when the amendment is put to a popular vote during the general election in November.

  • Lori Wilfahrt—Mother of the late Corporal Andrew Wilfahrt, of Rosemount.
  • Pastor Deb Stehlin—Light of the World Lutheran Church, of Farmington.
  • Miryam Kabakov—author, member of Beth Jacob congregation, resident of Mendota Heights.
  • Veda Kanitz—teacher at Rosemount High School.
  • Timothy Fink—Dakota County Votes No team member, of Farmington.
  • Kim Hansen—Regional Organizing Director for South Metro, MN United, Inver Grove Heights resident.

Registration and a social hour will commence at 2:30 p.m. The speakers will take the mic at 3 p.m.
