“Faces of New America” Photo Exhibit

Explore stories that shape Minnesota through photo exhibits, local author appearances, and programs celebrating history this fall at Dakota County Library locations.

The fall program series begins Sept. 1 with the “Faces of New America” photo exhibit at the Burnhaven and Galaxie libraries. The month-long exhibit features large-scale photographs of first and second generation immigrant youth by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Jila Nikpay.  On Sept. 24, 1–2:30 p.m., Nikpay will present and discuss her photo collection at the Galaxie Library, 14955 Galaxie Ave., Apple Valley. Other programs offer opportunities to hear from local authors as they share stories about Minnesota veterans, growing up during the Great Depression and being a river rat in the backwaters of the upper Mississippi River. Learn how to date and identify your old photographs or get tips to participate in the National Novel Writing Month write-a-thon. Let the folks at Stillwater’s Midtown Antiques appraise family heirlooms. Listen to recordings of ghost whispers when the author ofWhispers of a Haunted House discusses her true-life experience in a haunted house.
