Burnsville Student Honored at Regional Art Show

Amanda Pius was recognized for a distinctive self-portrait in acrylic paint.

One Burnsville girl garnered special recognition at the South Suburban Conference High School Visual Arts Exhibition. Amanda Pius received an award of merit for her acrylic painting, a piece called "Praeterita."

This is not the first time Pius has been honored for her artistic skill. She also recently received a Gold-Key award, Honorable Mention, and a Penco purchase award in this year's Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards.

However, Pius was not alone at the South Suburban Conference exhibition. Burnsville talent was on full display in Bloomington last week. In addition to Pius, nine other students from Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School were selected for the show at Normandale Community College: Christian Deoferio, Kristin Ellis, Cheyanne Harrison, Danny Knoblauch, Albert Knutson, Bryar Nisbet, Amanda Pius, Nicolette Rykhus, Nora Steiner and Nam Vuong. The entries are evaluated by a professional, who then chooses standout pieces for special recognition.

The exhibit's last day was Friday. Photos from the opening reception on March 14 are available on the BAHS Facebook Page

Burnsville has had many successes at the conference in recent years. In 2012, Jessica Wilson, then an 18-year-old student at Burnsville Alternative High School, took “Best in Show” for her piece, “Fluctuating Impressions.”
