A weekly rundown of the stories that readers deemed most interesting over the past seven days

But the Week in Review is about what most peaked the interest of the public. And with that, the list is limited to just the top five.

Burnsville's  Dylan James Swisher, 22, was charged with growing marijuana in his home with the intent to sell after police confiscated 60 to 70 marijuana plants and growing equipment. The total weight of the confiscated “shucked” marijuana was 965.5 grams, or more than 2 pounds.

BPD saw everything from warrants, burglary and theft to drug possession and domestic assault.

St. Paul resident Russell Eugene Avent, 27, was charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon after authorities say he tied up his Burnsville girlfriend with a vacuum cleaner cord, knocked out several of her teeth and tried to strangle her. Avent is also charged with making terroristic threats, false imprisonment, endangering a child, domestic assault by strangulation and interfering with an emergency call. He is being held in the Dakota County Jail in Hastings.

Prominent local attorney William J. Coughlin has officially announced his intention to run for the city council seat left vacant by the untimely passing of Charlie Crichton. Known to most people as 'Bill', Coughlin has lived in the community since 1989, he and his wife have raised three children in the city and they are long-standing members of the local Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
