Monday

• Tonight’s Planning Commission Meeting has been canceled.

• Council Work Session: At 6:30 the city council will hold an informal meeting about the 2012 budget, which went through preliminary approval in early September. The public is welcome to attend the session, which will be held in the council chambers at 100 Civic Center Parkway.

STHEM Breakfast: The Burnsville Chamber of Commerce and City of Burnsville are hosting a breakfast to honor the Burnsville businesses contributing to science, technology, healthcare, engineering and math. The keynote speaker will be Mike Langley, the president of Greater MSP, a 13-county economic development partnership. The breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 9.

 The event is free and open to the public, though the Chamber asks that attendees RSVP by Tuesday afternoon. For more information, call the Burnsville Chamber at 952-435-6000.

Thursday

• This is the last week for the St. Paul Farmers Market. In Burnsville, you can catch the market on Thursday, from noon to 5 p.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church, or on Saturday at the Burnsville Transit Station from 7 a.m. to noon.

Foundation 191 is hosting its seventh annual fundraiser. The organization raises money for school program like the Robotics Team at Burnsville High and other initiatives. This year’s event will feature dinner, a silent auction and the Amazing Hondo, a magician who will perform at during the event at Savage’s McColl Pond Environmental Learning Center. Tickets are $50 per person. The event begins at 6 p.m.

Friday

• The city will host the first-ever Halloween Fest in Nicollet Commons Park. For $5 per family, kids can enjoy scary stories, face painting, and the company of characters from Buck Hill’s Frightmares. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call 952-895-4500.
