Over 20 Teams Turn Out For Relay For Life

Relay For Life of Burnsville started with games, massages and food.

The event started around 6 p.m. on Friday at the Burnsville High School Stadium. Relay For Life is an all night event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society. It also honors survivors while remembering those who have died.

There were 23 teams registered for the event, and nine of those teams were fundraising on site.

The opening ceremony included speeches and a dove release in memory of loved ones. After the dove release, participants cheered on survivors as they took a lap around the track.

Organizers hope to raise $30,000 this year, said Becky Kritz, event chair. Donations received through August 31 will count toward this year's fundraiser.
