NerdWallet Names Savage No. 9 City in Minnesota for Young Families

The consumer-advocacy chose 10 Minnesota towns based on school rankings and economic data.

Savage is one of the top 10 places in Minnesota to raise a family, according to NerdWallet, a consumer-advocacy website. Dan Patch's hometown ranked nine of 10 on a list that included other longtime Twin Cities favorites like Stillwater and Woodbury.

The site analyzed national and statewide data in three categories to come up with the list:

  • Public school rating
  • Affordability
  • Economic growth

To gird its argument, NerdWallet offered a short but flattering description of Savage on the website:

Savage sits on the south bank of the Minnesota River, just south of Minneapolis. Earlier this year, it ranked #21 on CNNMoney’s list of the Best Places to Live in the United States. The larger area, Scott County, is the fastest growing county in the state, with a 45 percent uptick in population between 2000 and 2010.

Waconia was named No. 1. Two other Scott County cities made the list: Prior Lake (No. 6) and Shakopee (No. 10).
