Miercoles de Cenizas: Ash Wednesday in a Spanish-Speaking Church

Hundreds converged on Church of the Risen Savior to partake of one of the church's most poignant rituals.

Last night, Father Stefan Kappler marked dozens of parishioners with a simple cross made of soot during a special, Ash Wednesday mass at Church of the Risen Savior, home to 400 Spanish-speaking families, making it one of the largest Latino congregations in the Twin Cities Catholic community. The cross is a memento mori ushering in the Lenten Season, 40 days of fasting, repentance and contemplation.
