Memorial for Anarae Schunk Planned for Sunday

The family invites the public to come and share stories and memories of Anarae Schunk, 20, who was slain on Sept. 22.

The family of a slain Burnsville woman will hold a public memorial service honoring her life this Sunday, at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center.

Twenty-year-old Anarae Schunk, a gifted chess player and scholar, was killed on Sept. 22. Her body was recovered this Monday.

“Anarae was a caregiver,” her family said Wednesday in a statement to the Star Tribune. “She was passionate about others. She had a sharp wit. She believed in the good of humanity. Anarae was also stubborn, but she is a Schunk, so this goes without saying.”

The memorial service will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center. Donations to help the family with funeral costs can be sent or taken to any U.S. Bank, care of the Anarae Schunk Fund.
