Excessive Heat Watch for Burnsville Begins Sunday

The heat watch will be in effect for multiple days with little overnight relief expected.

Burnsville and several other areas in Minnesota could see record highs staring Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS has issued an excessive heat watch for Sunday, Aug. 25 through the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 28. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s with heat indices of 95 to 105 degrees.

Overnight temperatures will remain warm with lows expected to be in the 70s for most places and barely below 80 in the Twin Cities urban core.

From the NWS:

Impacts: The hot and humid conditions will lead to a heightened risk of heat related stress and illness...Especially for the young and elderly...Those without air conditioning...And people participating in strenuous outdoor activities.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...Stay in an air-conditioned room...Stay out of the sun...And check up on relatives and neighbors.
