Burnsville-born, Eagan-educated, Tony-nominated

Broadway Actress Laura Osnes has been tapped for a Tony for her work on the musical "Bonnie & Clyde."

Right now, Burnsville native Laura Osnes is the talk of the town and the toast of Broadway—not bad for a girl born and raised south of the river. Last week, Osnes was nominated for a Tony Award for her work on "Bonnie & Clyde," the musical. Though the show received mixed or modest reviews, it inspired plenty of good buzz for Osnes, a graduate of Eagan High. She's been interviewed by New York Times Magazine about her beauty regimen (Hint: lots of planking), is the subject of many fawning blogs, and was recently spotlighted in Vanity Fair which warmly prasied her "Ivory-soap looks and clarion pipes." Burnsville High Student Debuts Documentary — 'Sight Without Eyes'

Burnsville High Student Scott Svare recently wrapped up production of "Sight Without Eyes," a short documentary that takes viewers through a day in the life of Stephen Browman, a blind student at Burnsville High School. The film was accepted by by the Minnesota High School Film Festival this week. The film went viral almost as soon as Svare posted the video online, drawing 1,000 hits in the first four hours alone. PHOTOS: Willy Wonka's Fabulous Flying Adventure

Burnsville High opened its last play of the season, "Willy Wonka," on Thursday, dazzling the crowd with aerial feats, song and dance.

Burnsville High School Theatre Guild presents its last show of the season — a "sticky-sweet" musical performance of Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka," one of the most technically challenging plays in the annals of BHS theater. The challenge for Artistic Director Randy Day: To get Charlie and Grandpa Joe to fly, blow up Violet Beauregard into a bad-tempered blueberry, and build a technicolor Wonka Factory in just a few weeks time. Renaissance Festival to Hold Auditions Beginning May 12

Got an act fit for a king? Auditions will be held at the HUGE Improve Theatre in Minneapolis, from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 19, and 26.

Calling all Burnsville troubadours, jesters, knights and ladies: The Minnesota Renaissance Festival has announced audition times for the 2012 season. The auditions will be held at the HUGE Improve Theatre in Minneapolis, from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 19, and 26.  The Minnesota Renaissance Festival is casting for musicians, ensembles, street performers, dancers, stage combat performers and actors of all ages. Participants need not have performance experience. Monday • U.S. Navy Band Concert: The ever-popular United States Navy band from Washington, D.C. will perform Monday night at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center. The Navy Band frequently plays the White House and the U.S. Capitol Building, and has participated in 21 presidential inaugurals. The concert is free, but the tickets were all spoken for by late February. However, tune into Burnsville Community Television, which will be broadcasting the concert live on BCTV Cable Channel 14 at 7:00 p.m. The broadcast will not be available to those who get television services via a satellite dish, nor will it be accessible online. • Education Fair: Nicollet Junior High will be hosting college reps from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00. The College Fair is …

Newcomer Ernie's Wins People's Choice at 'Bite of Burnsville'

Ernie's Pub & Grille was honored with the Silver Fork Award after just six months of existence.

Victory has never tasted quite so sweet for the staff at Ernie's. The pub and grill won the people's choice award — the Silver Fork — at Bite of Burnsville on Thursday. Brackett’s Crossing of Lakeville won the Silver Spoon Award.  It was quite an honor for owners John Pleschourt and Bryan Prettyman, who opened their restaurant at the old Chateau Lamothe location in October of 2011 — a mere six months ago. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! To all of our fans, friends and family that have supported us!" The two wrote on Ernie's facebook page. Alternative High Student Takes Top Prize at Art Competition

Jessica Wilson's piece was named "Best in Show" at the 26th Annual High School South Suburban Conference Art Show.

If anyone can speak to the transformative power of the arts, it is Jessica Wilson, an 18-year-old student at Burnsville Alternative High School. Last year, she was adrift. This year, her life has turned around. She is well on her way to a college education and her piece, “Fluctuating Impressions,” took “Best in Show” at the 26th Annual High School South Suburban Conference Art Show. Wilson started at the BAHS in the last quarter of the 2010 to 2011 school year. Wilson said she’s always been interested in creative pursuits like writing and art but she had very little formal training until she enrolled in Teacher Andrew Nagahashi's class in fall of 2011. Nagahashi sensed she had a unique talent right off the bat.
