Workman Trounces Challenger in Sophomore Race

Burnsville's County Commissioner Liz Workman has won a second term, easily defeating opponent David Giles.

County Commissioner Liz Workman is here to stay.

Workman all but swept the polls during her second run, clocking in with 15,363 votes, or 61.9 percent of the vote. Challenger David Giles took 9,308 votes, or 37.5 percent of the ballots cast. About .6 of the votes were write-ins.

Her victory Tuesday night outpaces her performance in 2008, when Workman defeated Vicki Turner (niece of Workman's predecessor, five-term County Commissioner Mike Turner) by a comfortable margin of 1,065 votes.

Workman is a familiar name in local politics. Before her election to the county board, she served for 12 years on the Burnsville City Council.

Many thanks to all of you who supported and voted for me. I couldn't have won without you. It is an honor to continue to represent Burnsville at the county level.
